Adventure Awaits at Fort Calhoun Elementary School
Adventure Awaits as Kim Szlachetka and Marti Leishman dressed as characters from the movie Up pass in front of Fort Calhoun Elementary School on the first day of school for students on Monday morning August 15.
Fort Calhoun Elementary School teachers arrived at school dressed as characters from the movie UP and as real life and fiction adventurers to the delight of students waiting for the first day of the school year to begin. First instigated by third grade teachers Marti Leishman and Kim Szlachetka years ago, the themed costumes and lessons plans have become a school wide activity.
Fourth grade teacher Liz Pemberton dressed as Meriwether Lewis and Allie Schleifer dressed as Sacagawea with her little boy Jet as Sacagawea’s son Pomp. Allie said that Jet really did enjoy it. “He giggled and cooed the whole time. ”
Allie said, “It’s all these teachers here, one comes up with an idea and the rest of us just roll with it! ”

Sacagawea traveled with Lewis and Clark. “Liz Pemberton was dressed as Lewis so I went as Sacagawea with the baby. He really did enjoy it, giggled and cooed the whole time.
